Everyone is either in a gang or alone, and no one wants to be alone, so they are in a gang and they just go with the flow, because the society doesn’t let them be themselves. This is what’s happening with most of the main characters of the story, the mean teenager gang and the gang of kids.
Evidence #3:
Gordy and Chris talk about being weird, normal, and ‘fitting in’ to the society. Gordy talks about not wanting to be a writer although he likes it because it is uncool, stupid, a waste of time and is not the ‘usual’ jobs people have in their society.
Evidence #4:
Gordy and the Vern just went with the flow and walked through the train trails, although its dangerous and ineffective.
Evidence #5:
What his dad thinks of Gordon and what the society thinks of him holds him back from being a different individual because he feels like he has to fit in and conform to the society.
